I was watching 'Cause you had a bad day music video on Channel V.
It strikes me that I'm smiling to it, so easily amused - happy.
It was then that it changes me.
It was 2004, in a Teen Dhamma Camp, when a silly 14 year old raise up her hands, walked out from her comfy zone in the crowd, stood in front of em all and asked the speaker her question- So What's the purpose of life? Why are we born into this world for?
Are we only here to live through our jovial childhood stage where every day is filled with joys & laughters;
then we listen to the teacher in class, attend tuitions, study for UPSR, then PMR, then SPM for the next 12 years;
daddy & mommy say study and get good results-'it's for ur own good' ;
then we realise that we study because we have to get good results, because we need it- the cert, the paper qualification, to prove that you're highly educated, to get a job;
we need a job, we work for the remaining 40 years of our life because we need money;
we need money because money buys you food, you need food because without it you'll be able to "make it",
Money pays the bill, money gets you a home, a place to keep you warm to shelter you from the unfavourable weather outside;
and money as they say, brings you happiness.
So I got it. That's why we have to drive ourselves to work in the future 14600 days to come, we repeat our routine daily, we work 9 to 5, we must complete our work, to risk the sack not, we try to outperform the rest, to clinch a higher & higher position each time in the company's hierarchy, we want a raise, because we need more money, without money we can't do a thing, we need it to sustain our life, and even more when we get kids and to support them, and they repeat the same life cycle as we do again.
We need to work, jobs are the ones that'll provide you money, the existence of jobs is due to human's needs & demands, and then another group of humans work to cater, to supply the needs. So, all of us are serving to maintain the economic cycle, so then from the economic cycle, we earn our money.
But then, why?
Life is uncertain; Death is certain.
Since at the end of the day, we're going to all die anyway, that day will come whether you accept it or not. It's only a matter of whether you get to live longer or you've got a shorter life span.
So,why are we doing all these, to prevent ourselves from dying. Why bother?
Is it very fun to spend some time here, and spend most of the time of our life working, to get some money, so we can sustain healthily till the time death ripes ?
What for?
There must be some purpose to life.
